Yesterday, it has marked another milestone for Bermaz Motors Sdn. Bhd as the company launches the Mazda 3 CKD and also the all new Mazda 3 MPS. In total four variants has been launched here in Malaysia with the engine capacity of 1.6 Litre and 2.0 Litre in both Sedan and Hatchback variant.
As I have touched about the engine, the engine inside the car is the same powerplant that is powering the CBU version of the car with the same power and torque output. The MZR engine for the 1.6 litre produce 103hp at 6,000RPM and 144Nm of torque at 4,000RPM. As for the 2.0 Litre engine, the engine pushes out 145hp at 6,500RPM and 182Nm at 4,500RPM. In terms of tranmission, for the 1.6 litre variants, the four speed auto tranny is the sole option available with the larger brother gets the 5 speed auto tranny. Both transmission features a Mazda Activematic technology.
During the press conference, Dato Ben Yeoh the CEO of Bermaz Motors has inform the media that in terms of equipment level, nothing has change as compared to the CBU unit and the only major differences is the body colour of the car as Bermaz Motors has introduce a new colour for the CKD variants here in Malaysia(more of this).
As for the bigger brother, the 2.0 litre, the list of equipment list is much longer which includes dual zone fully auto aircond, bi-xenon headlamps, 6CD changer with MP3 and WMA playing capability blasting 6 speakers and a 215/45 series on a 17 inch alloy wheels. In terms of safety, the car is equipped with and additional 4 more airbags which are a side and curtain airbags and also an auto dimming rear view mirrors.
For the extra luxurious features, this Mazda 3 2.0 also received auto rain sensor, auto on and auto headlamp leveling, cruise control, a leather wrap steering wheel and gear knob and also a paddle shifter if you feel in the mood of an aggresive driving.
In terms of pricing for the Mazda 3 CKD(more on this), the words CKD automatically means its cheaper and this statement is true as what has been informed to us during the press conference. When the car is assemble here, the price of the car is cheaper is due to the a lower tax impose to the car as an incentive to the assembler establishing its plant here in Malaysia and Mazda is confident that the manufacturing plant can churn out 3,000 units a year from the contract assembler of Inokom assembly plant in Kulim Kedah. To ensure its quality, Mazda production team and engineering from Japan are here to work together with Inokom assembly staff to ensure the same quality of cars rolled out from Kulim plant to have the same quality standard of the same car rolling out from Mazda Hiroshima Plant.

There only one sole transmission option which is a six speed manual gearbox witl torque sensing limited slip differential. Interior wise, the car is almost exactly the same as the normal Mazda 3 with the differences can been seen on the door trim and in panel of the car which features a red decoration panel with a leather/cloth mix seat and leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob and also a bi-xenon headlamps, a Bose audio system with a six disc in dash blasting its 10 speakers. Beside that, to further increase its estactic design of the car, the Mazda 3 MPS includes body kits and also a 225/40 series tires on an 18inch alloy wheels.
