Perodua acquires 64 acres of land from UMW Capital (Official Press Release)



Perodua today acquired 64 acres of land adjacent to its main headquarters in Sungai Choh, Rawang from UMW Corporation Sdn Bhd for RM16.7 million for the construction of new facilities and for the expansion of existing infrastructures.

The facilities include a mosque, a childcare centre, a mini gymnasium, additional parking space and additional utilities infrastructures.

“The plans we have in place for this land will be a great boost to our staff welfare and is part and parcel of our promise to place people first in whatever we do,” Perodua Managing Director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said during the signing ceremony between Perodua and UMW Corporation.

Also present is UMW Corporation President and Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Syed Hisyam Syed Wazir.

“The mosque is designed to accomodate approximately 4,500 people as part of our Corporate Responsibility programme and in line with our “you matter most” philosophy,” he said.

Aminar added that Perodua is currently discussing with the religious authorities on how best to manage the mosque that will benefit not just those working at Perodua but the community at large.

Aminar said that these new infrastructures would be completed towards the second half of 2013 to help ease some of the logistics issues.

On the child care centre, Aminar said the facility will be a great asset to Peroduans as the centre will be operated by trained and certified professionals as well as give peace of mind to its workers given the close proximity to their workplace.

In addition to these planned infrastuctures, Perodua is also discussing with a few developers on the most feasible arrangement to meet the accomodation needs its workers. 

“The concept, if accepted and approved, will create a Perodua Community area, which will not only improve productivity but will create a “peace of mind” atmosphere among Perodua staff since their workplace is near their home”, Aminar said.

With this sales and purchase agreement, Perodua will increase its total headquarters land size to 404 acres from its current 340 acres.
