The waiting is over, after month of teasing and nationwide road show, the all new Ford Ranger has been launched recently. The launching event was filled with built tough atmosphere with the highlights of announcing the winner of Malaysia Global Ford Ranger Challenge results and prize giving ceremony. Before I come to that, there certainly some good news from Ford. To further strengthen the Ford brand here in Malaysia, Ford has just announced a new global brand promise in Malaysia which is the “Go Further”.
The “Go Further” is what will be delivered with the One Ford plan where it compassed from how Ford treats their customers, to the style and range of services available at their dealership. The next big wave from the “Go Further” promises is a series of launches which begin in the next few months the Next Generation Focus and a further six all new or redesigned models to be launched in Malaysia in the next 18 months. These six products will feature eight power trains completely new to Malaysia including the EcoBoost engines as well as state of the art diesel technology pioneered in Europe.
The first of this highly anticipated time from Ford begins with the launch of the all new Ford Ranger where it redefines the compact pickup truck segment by combining the toughness and capability of pickup truck with smart technology, outstanding safety, excellent fuel economy and high standard of quality and comfort.
There will be two engines available for the Malaysian market mainly the Duratorq TDCi 2.2L Variable Geometry Turbo diesel which delivers 150PS and 375Nm of torque is mated with six speed automatic transmissions or a manual six speed transmission which offers exceptional fuel consumption from as low as 8.1L/100km. The top of the range is the Duratorq five cylinder TDCi 3.2L Variable Geometry Turbo diesel engine punches out 200PS with a meaty 470Nm of torque is mated with a six speed automatic transmission and offers class leading fuel consumption of 8.9L/100km.
These all new Ford Ranger was engineered for safety which includes both active and passive safety features such as Anti Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Load Adaptive Control (LAC) where the system will automatically manage the optimal vehicle load stability, Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) where it will provide additional brake pressure in emergency stopping manoeuvres and Emergency Brake Light where it will signal other drivers by flashing the indicators when the vehicles decelerated quickly.
The top of the range the 3.2L Wildtrak is equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and loads of other features such as Hill Descent Control (HDC) where it will help the driver on steep downhill grades, the Hill Launch Assist (HLA) where it helps the driver pull away from steep climb and the Roll Over Mitigation (ROM) where it brilliantly prevent the vehicle getting into a roll over situation. In terms of passive safety, the all new Ranger features Dual Airbags for XLT models and Dual Airbags and side curtain airbags for the Wildtrak models.
Born to be wild, the all new Ford Ranger features water wading capability is among the best in the segment, with the Hi-Rider, XLT and Wildtrak models being able to wade through up to 800mm of water even on full laden. Speaking of full laden, the all new Ford Ranger boast outstanding payload capacity of more than 1400 kilograms and superb towing ability of up to 3350 kilograms.
In terms of creature comfort, the all new Ford Ranger features an auto cruise control, auto rain sensing wipers, USB and IPod/Iphone connectivity, auto headlamps and Bluetooth and Voice Control technology and a 4.2” Multi Function Display.
The Ford Ranger was design to be a practical vehicle, thus the engineers of Ford has design some clever features along with it. Among the features includes over 20 storage areas and rear passenger under seat stowage, spacious rear legroom of 902mm in length, a remote keyless entry, fog lamps and a volumetric burglar alarm system with immobilizer.
For the top of the range, the Wildtrak model offers a distinct differences than the XLT models which includes a dual zone electronic automatic climate control, a rear view camera with rear view mirror display, a muscular front bumper with an aerodynamic sports bar at the rear, an 18” alloy wheels and a special Wildtrak interior which includes a leather and premium fabric combination on the seat. Speaking of the seat, the Wildtrak models features a driver 8 way power adjust with lumbar support and map pocket.
In terms of choice of colours, Ford has offers a wide range of colour palette with the XLT models offers six colours choices of Aurora Blue, Gunmetal Blue, Metropolitan Grey, Highlight Silver, Cool White and Black Mica. Special for the Wildtrak model is the Chilli Orange and Cool White colours. In terms of prices, the Ford Ranger 2.2 XLT 6 speed manual list for RM 89,888.00, the 2.2 XLT 6 speed automatic is prices at RM 95,888.00 and the top of the range the Wildtrak 6 speed automatic transmission is price at RM 116,888.00. All the above prices includes on the road with insurance for Peninsula Malaysia and private registration only.
As I have mentioned, the highlight of the launched event is the announcement of the Global Ford Ranger Challenge winners. Out of the five finalist, Mr Wong Kok Wei, an IT executive from Penang was announced the winner which bags home a brand new Ford Ranger 2.2XLT 6 Speed Manual worth RM 89,888.00 and Global Ranger merchandise with his green tree ferrying mission. His challenge outwitted other competitors based on the online vote from the Global Ranger Challenge website and special votes from Ford panel of judges. The second prize winner is Mr Denny Lim with his “Borneo Less Travelled Path” which bring him home a cash prize of RM 9,888.00, a Global Ranger Challenge merchandise and RM10,000.00 voucher to buy his own brand new Ford Ranger.
