After numerous teasing and also a video showing its production line off at its Hiroshima production plan, Mazda has finally unveil the all new Mazda 6 in its real flash before the 2012 Moscow Motor Show. With its new design direction of “KODO” which means Soul of Motion, and a full range of SKYACTIV technologies, the new Mazda 6 does have a real great looking D-Segment sedan which will be competing head on with the likes of the new Toyota Camry, the Honda Accord, the Korean in guise of KIA Optima and also the Hyundai Sonata.

Previous shots we can only see the exterior design of the car, but now Mazda has finally unveil the interior design of the new Mazda 6. According Mazda, the interior now employs the use of soft material on areas frequently touched by occupants such as at the door trim and also the upper part of the instrument panel. The size of this car has grown significantly as compared to the outgoing model with the wheel base measuring 2,830mm which is a cool 105mm longer.

The increase of dimension also makes the front wheel being moved forward by 100mm in relation to the A-pillar thus reducing the front overhang of the car. Interior space has been considered in detail by the Mazda engineers with 20mm more shoulder room for the front passenger, 43mm increase of knee clearance of the back passenger and also 37mm increase of more legroom. In further enhance the seating comfort for the rear passenger; Mazda has increased the rear seat cushion by 20mm and the seat back height by 33mm thus this will result to a better comfort for the rear passenger especially during a long drive.

As for the suspension system, the car employs MacPherson struts up front and a rear multi-link suspension for a great handling prowess. Speaking of handling, the new Mazda 6 will use a new column type electric power assistance steering system and according to Mazda, this new 6 will be a driver’s car. While using a more sophisticated rear suspension, the engineers of Mazda has manage to squeeze the cargo capacity to 483 liters which is very big for this car segment.

With the new Mazda 6, by employing the SKYACTIV-Body structure, the engineers have decided to use more ultra-high tensile steel in aiming to reduce the weight and at the same time improving the torsional rigidity of the car by 30% as compared to the outgoing model. So far, Mazda has unveil two powertrain options for this car which is the four cylinder 2.0 liter SKYACTIV-G engine chain driven that generates 148hp at 6,000RPM and 210Nm of torque at 4,000RPM and the SKYACTIV-G 2.5 liter pushing 189hp at 5,700RPM and massive 256Nm of torque at 3,250RPM. Both powerplant will be offered with a 6 speed manual transmission or a 6 speed automatic transmission and a standard i-stop idling stop system which will enhance the fuel economy of this car.

As for the 2.5 liter unit, this engine will be the first Mazda engine to employ the brand new technology which is the i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration system where this system will charge a capacitor the moment the driver takes his foot of the accelerator pedal. The stored electricity will then used to power the electrical component of the whole car instead by relying power from the engine thus; this will further add the fuel economy credential of this car which is rated at 6.4liter/100km
