Mercedes takes on Volkswagen with its all new A-Class!!


The recent small vehicle tie-up between Mercedes-Benz and Renault has seen some fruitful result and the result can be seen as shown above. This is an artist impression of the upcoming new Mercedes-Benz A-Class which going to give a head on fight with the German opponent from Volkswagen more specifically the Volkswagen Golf and its traditional opponent the BMW 1 series and also the Audi A3.

The car will sport a front wheel drive platform and it is reported the design was taken from the design cue of Mercedes-Benz F800 concept that has been revealed during the Geneva Motor Show. The artist impression above have seen an idea inspired with a new prominent grille of Mercedes new family face, a LED headlights and also a more boldly sculptured body panel to make it a more desirable and sportier looking then the current Mercedes line up.

The car will be available in both three and five door variant with the engine range coming from both petrol and diesel which features a start-stop technology. In terms of cabin quality, according to Mercedes, the interior of this new car will have a better cabin quality then the Golf but it does comes with a higher price. It is expected the car will be available at Mercedes showroom at the beginning of 2012. According to Mercedes global sales and marketing boss, Dr Joachim Schmidt “In the next couple of years, we will launch additional cars where we don’t currently have predecessors and the current A-Class and B-Class will be replaced by a new platform for four totally different cars defining new segments for Mercedes.”

Dr Schmidt also confirmed that these new models will not features a practicality of the older MPV design for the A-Class but the B-class will remained its current design form with its compact high roofed five door that will features a hybrid and electric power train option that is slated for debut in late 2011.

Besides this new A-class, by 2013, Mercedes also plans to release a small 4x4 or 2x4 crossover to take on the battle with the BMW X1 range and also a small four door coupe with a possible nameplate of BLS. To complete the range, Mercedes also planning a new model to fight the Audi A1 and also BMW supermini where it is likely to badge as a Smart car.
