PRESS RELEASE: UMW Toyota Spreads The Joy To The Under Privileged Kids

UMW Toyota Motor organised a Christmas and school holiday treat for the children from Trinity Children Centre, Petaling Jaya and St. Barnabas Home, Klang. This annual festive celebration and school holiday season was organised as part of the company’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and also to inculcate a spirit of volunteerism and community service among the UMW Toyota Motor personnel.

Over 20 volunteers from UMW Toyota Motor played host to 40 children during a special shopping treat at Paradigm Mall. The Christmas and school holiday ‘double joy’ treats began with a ‘Christmas’ shopping spree and was led up to a fun Christmas dinner time. The children aged between 6 to 17 years old, enjoyed a full dinner spread and were presented with “back to school” goodies. This outreach programme was intended to assure these children that they have friends who care and are not alone in this world.

The volunteers from UMW Toyota Motor were each assigned two children from the homes. Their task for the day included taking the children shopping for their Christmas wish list such as toys and clothes. This outing was a suitable time for the volunteers to have a bonding relationship with the children and foster the spirit of giving and sharing.

According to Datuk Ismet, “Some are orphans and have no place to call home, while others are from broken homes or single parent family. Although most welfare homes take care of their charges well in terms of their basic needs in the form of food, shelter and education, they find it difficult to fulfil the emotional void of the children, especially during festive seasons”.

He also said that through the company’s efforts, we hope to touch the children’s hearts and make a positive impact in their lives where the message of “Hope” and “Love” are felt by all.

The Staff Volunteer Programme is part of the Philanthropic pillar of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). UMW Toyota Motor’s commitment to CSR has been an integral part of its corporate culture since it was established in 1990. Its CSR approach is consonant with its philosophy of ‘A history of service to society’, where UMW Toyota Motor continually seeks opportunities to contribute to the communities where they operate their business.
