PRESS RELEASE: Ford "Driving Skills For Life" Programme Aims To Increase Road Safety Awareness!!

Over 140 Malaysian licensed drivers participated in the Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) programme, organised by Ford and local distributor Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC), as part of their continued efforts to increase road safety awareness in Malaysia.

Licensed drivers comprising members of the CitiClub by CitiBank, employees of Sime Darby Berhad, fans of Ford Malaysia’s social media channel, as well as members of the general public attended the six half-day training sessions workshop by a panel of safety experts, held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS).

“Driving Skills for Life is designed to equip drivers with the skills they need to be better and safer on the road. Road safety is a very serious issue and we feel it is our responsibility to help reinforce this message among Malaysian motorists,” said Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz, Managing Director, Sime Darby Auto Connexion.

The DSFL workshops addressed the risks that drivers face on the road, such as dealing with unexpected situations, the peril of distracted driving such as the use of mobile phones while behind the wheel, hazard recognition, speed management and the importance of ensuring child seats are securely fastened.

“Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) reported that 7,152 people were killed in 521, 466 road accidents last year,” he continued. “Programmes like this will eventually help reduce road accidents in the country, and that’s what we are aiming for.”

DSFL is Ford’s flagship global corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme offering free-of-charge, hands-on driver training that covers hazard recognition, vehicle handling, speed/space management, and distraction awareness.

In Asia, Ford DSFL is now in its tenth successful year of training licensed drivers of all ages. In addition to Malaysia, DSFL training is provided in China, India, Myanmar, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
