Edaran Tan Chong Motor has launched the new Nissan Teana this morning at One World Hotel Bandar Utama. As I have mentioned in my previous post, I was invited to the launched with the ballroom hall jammed pack with the VVIPs, members of the media, and other honourable guests. The new Nissan Teana has been a long awaited D- segment sedan that has seen a missing link previously under the current line up of Edaran Tan Chong Motors.
Previously, the Nissan Teana was in the Malaysian market for a while, but the model does not raked in good sales due to the exorbitant price (CBU Japan) and the design looks a little bit awkward, but with the launched of the new Teana, Edaran Tan Chong has come with a full force to really push the sales for the new model. The numbers speaks for itself as during the launch ETCM has announced it has received more than 1000 bookings for the new Teana with 60% of the sales were the premium version which I will touch later on.
Consumers can be spoilt with the choices made by ETCM where ETCM has introduced 4 variants for the new Nissan Teana which consist of 2.0Litre Comfort, 2.0 Litre Luxury, 2.5 Litre V6 and the 3.5 Litre V6. The latter model is a CBU model direct from Japan, while the 2.0 Litre and 2.5 Litre V6 was assembled at the state of the art ETCM factory in Serendah.
Well let’s talk about the general features of the car. Shown below are the comparisons of the D segment contender here in Malaysia.

Now let’s look into the details of each model variant. The entry model for the Nissan Teana is the 2.0 Litre which was powered by the MR20DE engine that can be found on the Nissan Slyphy with the power output of 136ps with 190Nm of torque. Meanwhile the 2.5 Litre engine was source out from the fame VQ25DE engine with 182ps and a mouthful 228Nm of torque. Topping the chart is the 3.5 Litre V6 engine with 252ps and a massive 326Nm of torque. I secretly start the engine during the post launch and the grunt and sound of the 3.5 Litre V6 engine does feel powerful and energetic. All the engine above are mated with the super smooth Xtronic CVT gearbox which delivers a blend of seamless transition and smooth acceleration.
The Nissan Teana is underpinned by the latest generation Nissan D-Platform, which features an all round independent suspension with MacPherson struts on the front and multi link setup for the rear suspension. The steering system for the car is a hydraulic type instead of electric setup dubbed the “Twin Orifice Vehicle Speed Sensing Power Steering which essentially means it has two valves opening instead of one on the power steering pump.
ETCM has played a very well with the amount of kits that they offered to the consumers in Malaysia. The standard features across the range is very extensive with all models will received the front fog light, door mirror with side turning lamps, variable intermittent wipers, door mirrors electric foldable and adjustable, chrome outside door handles.
On the interior, the Teana features a luxury wood trim on the interior, steering wheel tilt bad sadly no telescopic adjustable, Push Button ignition, central door lock, multi information display (average speed, average fuel consumption, current fuel consumption, fuel to empty, elapsed time of travel and distance travelled) power window with auto up/down function with anti jam protection on driver’s side, rear seat trunk access, dual zone auto air condition and also rear air cond duct.
In terms of ICE, all models will received a 6 disc CD changer with MP3 function blasted on 6 speakers system, and AUX input and a glass printed audio antenna. In terms of safety, all models will received dual front air bags, ABS with EBD and BA, active head restraint, an immobilizer, child seat retainer, 3 point rear seatbelt and a pretensioner and load limiter front seatbelt.
As for the Premium version i.e. the 2.5 Litre V6 and 3.5 Litre V6, the equipments level that differs from the 2.0 Litre are, Xenon headlamp with auto levelling, intelligent key (i-Key), Auto Cruise control, leather seat with powered seat 8 way adjustable with 2 memory function on the driver seat, a 4 way adjustable powered seat for the front passenger, a driver seat lumbar support(manual adjustment) with the 3.5 Litre variant adds the ventilated seat on both driver and front passenger seat and the most intrigue of all an Ottoman seat for the front passenger. That is what I call luxury.
Speaking of luxury the list of equipment continues with a rear powered sunshade, steering wheel with audio controls, a side airbags and VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) with traction control for the safety in mind, front cornering sensors with the 3.5 litres also received the curtain airbags as standard features.
ETCM further elevate the luxury of owning the Nissan Teana by providing 8 different body colours with 3 body colour especially allocated for the 3.5Litre V6 model. The colours available are Brilliant White, Chardonnay Gold, Tungsten Silver, Sapphire Black, Deep Amethyst Grey, and especially for 3.5 Litre are Pearl White, Bordeaux Red and Luna Blue.
All new Nissan Teana will receive a 3 years warranty or 100,000 km which over comes first for a trouble free and pleasant feeling of owning the Teana. The last burning question, how much does it cost, shown below is the details of the pricing.
2.0 Litre Comfort RM 138,000.00
2.0 Litre Luxury RM 142,000.00
2.5 Litre V6 Premium RM 168,000.00
3.5 Litre V6 Exquisite RM 248,500.00
As you can see the difference of RM 4,000 for the 2.0 Litre Luxury models differs due to an addition of Windows Tinting; V-Kool Elite/V-Kool+Armcoat/Solar Guard, Leather seats, Ultra Glass Body Coating and front cornering sensors. The price aboved is only an introductary price which will remain for any order before 31st December 2010. After the promotion, there will be an increase of RM 3,000 to RM 4,000 for each models variant. So if you do fancy the luxury which cost less then a Toyota Camry, head down to your nearest Nissan dealer. Enjoy the pic gallery after the jump.
