NEW LAUNCHES: The New "Mother Trucker" Nissan Navara NP300 Launched In Malaysia!!!

Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) yesterday officially launched The Ultimate Pickup, the All-New Nissan NP300 Navara.

The event was held at the ETCM Glenmarie 4S Centre, and launched by Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan, International Trade and Industry Minister II, who was accompanied by Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Tan Heng Chew, President of Tan Chong Motor Holdings. Nissan was represented by Mr. Kenji Naito, Senior Vice President of Nissan Motor Asia Pacific Co. Ltd and ETCM was represented by Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Dr Ang Bon Beng, Executive Director of ETCM.

The successor to the popular Navara D40, the NP300 Navara double cab pickup delivers a compelling combination of dynamic driving performance, robust endurance, bold design and advanced technology. It is the first Japanese pickup in Malaysia with multi-link rear suspension, which transforms its driving experience and ride comfort to that of an SUV - even with a full payload of one tonne.

Nissan’s pickup design and heritage DNA is as distinctive as ever in the NP300 Navara. A first-in-class, full LED Headlamp with boomerang-shaped Daytime Running Light frames Nissan’s signature ‘V-motion’ grille, further emphasising the unmistakable aesthetics of the NP300 Navara. A new rear spoiler improves overall aerodynamics; and new 18-inch alloy wheels add on to its element of sportiness.

The NP300 Navara is powered by an improved 2.5L YD25DDTi variable geometry system (VGS) turbo intercooler engine, and fitted with a first-in-class seven-speed automatic transmission with manual mode for more power and smoother acceleration. A maximum output of 190 PS at 450Nm/2,000rpm makes it the most powerful pickup in its class.

The same luxurious comforts found in Nissan’s other premium models are present in the NP300 Navara – first-in-class Zero Gravity Inspired Seats offers spinal support for driver and front passengers; while improved seatback angle of rear seats and rear air-conditioning vents ensures comfort in any drive for rear passengers. A five-inch full colour Advanced Drive Assist Display (ADAD) screen provides vehicle information for ease of driving, and the sporty steering wheel with controls gives drivers direct access to the audio system and cruise control at the touch of the fingertips.

Key safety features in the NP300 Navara are Hill Start Assist; Hill Descent Control; and Active Brake Limited Slip for traction control and vehicle stability. Other safety features also include child seat retainer (ISOFIX with tether), Vehicle Dynamic Control and Traction Control System, Anti-locking Braking System, Electronic Brake Force distribution, and Brake Assist.

NP300 Navara is also offered as a single cab that is the most powerful in the market. Its complete steel body supports a full payload of one tonne, and comes with multi-leaf rear suspension as well as a first-in-class easy bed step.

According to Dato’ Dr. Ang Bon Beng, the All-New NP300 Navara is engineered to meet the challenges of any terrain. “We name the NP300 Navara The Ultimate Pickup, as it has the flexibility to be sturdy and reliable for work, yet comfortable and spacious for the weekend. Since ETCM opened pre-bookings in mid-October, we have collected over 1,000 bookings of the All-New Nisan NP300 Navara. Such enthusiastic response only serves to strengthen our resolve to work even harder to ensure that The Ultimate Pickup seals its place as a top contender in Malaysia’s pickup segment - and ultimately become the pickup of choice for Malaysians.”

Fully imported from Thailand, six 4WD variants are available to the Malaysian market:

Double Cab

2.5 VL (7-speed AT)
Single Cab

2.5 L (6-speed MT)
2.5 V (7-speed AT)
2.5 SE (7-speed AT)
2.5 SE (6-speed MT)

The All-New Nissan NP300 Navara comes with a 3-year or 100,000km (whichever comes first) warranty. Four colours are available: Tungsten Silver; Diamond Black; Brilliant White; and a new colour option, Savanna Orange.

PRESS RELEASE: Shell Malaysia Launched New Road Safety Programme 2016

Shell Malaysia yesterday announced that it will launch a new road safety programme in 2016, at the national closing ceremony of its iconic Shell Traffic Games (“STG”) today. The event drew over 500 primary and secondary school students from all over Malaysia, to learn about road safety in an engaging and fun way over two days.

Speaking about the event and Shell’s future plans for road safety education, Qamar Wan-Noor, Business Opportunity Manager for Shell Malaysia’s downstream division, said, “We are very proud of what we have achieved with the Shell Traffic Games for the past 58 years. Shell has made inroads into helping school students understand the importance of road safety and the role they play in spreading awareness. With this strong foundation in place, Shell is now looking into other areas where we can help improve road safety consciousness, reducing traffic-related injuries and death.”

Elaborating further, Qamar said, “It was recently reported that youths between the ages of 16 and 25 contribute to one-third of road accident fatalities in the country. This is clearly a situation that Shell wants to positively impact, given our long-standing experience and concern in the area of road safety management. We are in the midst of developing a programme to address this and hope to announce it in 2016. We are also looking forward to building on our long-standing relationships with its partners in the government and private sector for the new programme.”

Puan Rozainum binti Ahmad, Co-curriculum and Arts Section Director of Malaysia’s Ministry of Education, said, “Shell has laid a strong foundation for a programme that continues to draw the interest and attention of school students in an area as important as road safety. We thank Shell for all these decades of partnership and look forward to inculcating road-safety consciousness in future generations.”

Launched in 1957, the Shell Traffic Games, is held in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Road Safety Department of Malaysia, and various government agencies like the police, local authorities, as well as auxiliary bodies. Events are held throughout the year in most state capitals and practically every district and division in Sabah and Sarawak. Since its inception over 58 years ago, more than a million Malaysian students have taken part in the games.

Prizes are awarded to winning primary and secondary schools for the best road safety performance. This year, the primary school category was won by the contingent from Terengganu, followed by the contingents from Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur at second and third place, respectively. In the secondary school category, the contingent from Terengganu was declared the champion, followed by the contingent from Sarawak in second place and the contingent from Kedah in third place. Contingents are made up of the each state’s top competitors in their respective state-level Shell Traffic Games events.

The games are conducted on a specially equipped site in a safe location using pedal cars, bicycles and pedestrians. As part of the programme, participating schools are required to pass written tests on read safety. In subsequent practical or on-road tests, participants are awarded merit points for complying with road safety regulations, or conversely given demerits and issued traffic violation summons by real traffic police officers when they break road safety regulations or commit driving offences.

PRESS RELEASE: Volvo Malaysia calls all Volvo aftermarket professionals to participate in VISTA World Championship 2015-2016

Renowned truck manufacturer Volvo Malaysia yesterday kicked off its largest global competition for aftermarket personnel, the Volvo International Service Training Award (VISTA) in the presence of its employees at its headquarters in Shah Alam.

The biennial competition is designed to educate and develop participants’ technical knowledge and skills as well as to learn about the processes and business chain of how the company works – providing them the opportunity for professional self-development. VISTA is also a very effective way of motivating and inspiring employees, and is an avenue to cultivate teamwork.

Mats Nilsson, Managing Director of Volvo Malaysia said, “VISTA is much more than a competition. It is a mass competency-training event. Our mechanics are the backbone of Volvo Malaysia – making us the best business partner for our customers, throughout the lifetime of our vehicles. This is why we invest heavily in competence development, establish a structured approach to our technicians upgrading, and provide support for further education.”

“VISTA is a simulation of the workshop environment that aims to build skills and share expertise, in addition to motivate and foster teamwork and collaboration among our employees. The competition additionally teaches our aftermarket employees to be pro-active and pre-emptive when diagnosing issues and providing solutions to problems,” said Santhara Saigaran, Market Leader for Volvo VISTA.

Saigaran also added that VISTA is an all-round 360° approach to employee and work excellence. The number of participants for this year’s VISTA competition has also increased and the responses and feedback by dealer managers are equally encouraging.

“The goal is to make us better at what we do every day. This competition is not only important for our aftermarket personnel; it is also of great importance for the entire Volvo Group. It is a way of showing how much we value the hard work carried out at our workshops, and that we invest in what our customers appreciate most – world class service,” added Nilsson.

The improved knowledge and skills set acquired from previous VISTA competitions were applied in the day-to-day work and it has been successfully reflected in the employees’ competency level. This has enhanced the aftermarket quality in Malaysia and has contributed to increased customer satisfaction in the Volvo brand.

With registration commencing from June, the competition is open to all aftermarket professionals within the Volvo Trucks and Volvo Buses global service network. The competition starts in September with three rounds of theoretical questions, in which teams are required to complete in their workshops.

Following these three rounds, the best performing teams will be selected to qualify for the semi-finals (Asia Finals) in Bangkok in April 2016. From there, the winning team in Asia will proceed to the World Finals, which is set to take place in June 2016 at Volvo’s birthplace and home in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The 2015-2016 VISTA edition will see participation from approximately 200 employees comprising Technicians, Administrators and Parts Personnel from 13 service outlets (both owned dealers and private dealers) throughout Malaysia and Singapore. These participants will work in groups of three or four, to compete for a place in the Asia Finals.

“At Volvo, we do everything we can to inspire our customers all around the world – from building quality and technologically sound trucks to offering outstanding aftermarket service. This is because satisfied customers are key to making Volvo the number one brand in Malaysia’s commercial vehicle segment. Our VISTA Championships sets us firmly on that path and it achieves everything in a single competition,” Nilsson further commented.

VISTA is a global competition for all aftersales employees within the Volvo Trucks' and Volvo Buses' global service network. What originally started in 1957 as a competition exclusively for Volvo technicians in Sweden, has since grown to become an international biennial event, and the largest competition for aftermarket personnel in the world. VISTA 2012-2013 involved 93 countries all over the globe, 17,000 dedicated workshop professionals, 4,471 highly motivated teams, and millions of training hours.

PRESS RELEASE: Overwhelming Response For The Scania Driver Competition!!!

An unexpected number of people turned up at the Scania Driver Competition–MIBTC Edition (SDC-ME) that was held in conjunction with the recent Malaysia International Bus, Truck and Components Expo 2015.

Held at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre, the competition was open to anyone who wanted to have a go at driving a truck and participants had the opportunity to drive Scania P410 prime movers - the staple of Scania - to test their maneuvering skills.

More than 400 participants, who came from as far as the East Coast, were put through a challenging test that required them to drive the powerful yet fuel-efficient trucks around the competition course to complete a series of control and maneuvering skills with the least mistakes possible.

For many of them it was the first time they had ever been inside the cabin of a truck, let alone drive one, which they did with the guidance of an official Scania Driver Trainer.

There were four top drivers selected for each of the three days of the competition and they each received a genuine Scania sports bag.

“I came to the MIBTC to source for supplies for my business, and after being encouraged by my friends I signed up as a contestant and just wanted to have some fun. I did not expect to win, but I’m sure glad I did,” said En.Ghazali Hussin who was one of the 12 top drivers.

“Though it seemed that the competition was all fun, I was impressed by the coaching that the Scania Driver Trainer gave me throughout the competition and realised how serious Scania is in promoting safety for their customers and their drivers,” added the business owner from Terengganu.

A husband and wife team who came to the exhibition just to participate in the competition said they found out after learning about it from an email they had received.

“When I found out that the competition was open to all truck drivers as well as driving license holders, I told my wife, to give it a go,” said En Zamri Abdul Rahman who works for a logistic company in Port Klang.

The SDC-ME was a successful prelude to the main event in October this year, which is the Scania Driver Competition 2014/2015 Malaysia-Singapore (SDC).

The closing date for submission of entry forms for the professional drivers’ competition is on 31 July, 2015.

“The fourth edition of the SDC is now open to all drivers of trucks and buses, besides Scania vehicle drivers, so it will be a bigger and more challenging environment this year, ” said Marketing and Communication Manager of Scania Southeast Asia, Ian Tan

“We are committed to elevating the status of all commercial vehicle drivers in Malaysia by increasing the standards of safety, fuel economy and environmentally-friendly concerns. The support from Government transport agencies such as the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Road Safety Department (JKJR) as Official Partners of the SDC; also Michelin Malaysia as Main Sponsor are testimonies to this commitment by Scania,” added Tan.

NEW LAUNCHES: Naza Italia Launches The Ferrari 488GTB. Prices Starts From RM1,068mil!!!

NAZA Italia, official importer of the Ferrari brand in Malaysia, presented the Ferrari 488 GTB to the Malaysian market today, in a launch ceremony held at its newly-renovated NAZA Italia showroom. The Ferrari 488 GTB’s Malaysian debut comes just a few months after the model’s International Premiere in Geneva.

Present at the official launch ceremony were Datuk Wira Hj. SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin (Group Executive Chairman & Group CEO of NAZA World Group of Companies), Mr. Dieter Knechtel (Managing Director of Ferrari Far East), Mr. David Hector Ratnaike (Senior Vice President 2 of 4-Wheels Division, NAZA World Group of Companies) and Mr Wan Ahmad (Vice President 1 of NAZA Italia Sdn Bhd).

“The Ferrari 488 GTB provides a breathtaking 661bhp – the highest specific power output of any road-going Ferrari. Exceptionally powerful with greater fuel economy, this model is bound to be a new Malaysian favourite,” said Datuk Wira Hj. SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin, Group Executive Chairman & Group CEO, NAZA World Group of Companies.

The twin-turbocharged V8 Ferrari 488 GTB sets a new benchmark for the sports car sector. Forty years from the launch of Ferrari’s iconic first-ever mid-rear-engined V8 berlinetta, the 308, the Ferrari 488 GTB opens a new chapter in the history of cars with this particular architecture.

“Available at the introductory base price excluding duty and options of RM 1,068,800.00 and with the interest it has sparked worldwide, we are confident that the Ferrari 488 GTB will turbocharge its way into the hearts of Malaysian Ferraristi,” stated Mr. David Hector Ratnaike, Senior Vice President 2 of 4-Wheels Division, NAZA World Group of Companies.

Credit for this achievement must go to the Ferrari 488 GTB’s revolutionary proprietary solutions which deliver a car at the top of its class in terms of power output (670 cv) with engine and command response times of just 0.8 and 0.06 seconds respectively. Significantly, however, sophisticated dynamic vehicle controls make this massive power completely controllable even on the limit by drivers of all abilities, resulting in the unique driving pleasure that only a Ferrari can deliver.

Ferrari drew extensively too on its experience in both Formula One and endurance racing, bringing to the road the technology that delivered victory in two editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the title in the WEC (World Endurance Championship). Also pivotal was the XX programme in which Ferrari’s technicians have developed a unique knowledge of the dynamic behaviour of extreme cars driven by non-professional drivers.

The 488 in the car’s moniker indicates the engine’s unitary displacement, while the GTB stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta, a reference to its deep roots in Ferrari history.

Designed by the Ferrari Style Centre, the Ferrari 488 GTB’s sculptural forms are completely new. They accentuate the car’s sportiness yet retain the classically clean, pure lines typical of Ferrari’s legendary styling. The seamless interweaving of form and function is clear in every detail, in fact. Certain design elements are also obvious nods to the past, not least the 308 GTB-inspired styling of the flanks.

The extreme power required by the car is delivered by the new 3902 cm3 turbo engine which is coupled with a seven-gear F1 dual-clutch gearbox featuring Variable Boost Management which optimally distributes torque (a maximum 760 Nm in seventh gear). The Ferrari 488 GTB guarantees exuberant performance that is absolutely exploitable to the fullest regardless of driving conditions and is accompanied by a deep, seductive soundtrack, the signature of all Ferrari engines.

The Ferrari 488 GTB’s revolutionary aerodynamics incorporate patented solutions, such as the blown rear spoiler, as well as innovative features like the 458 GT-derived aerodynamic underbody with vortex generators. The result is a new efficiency record for a Ferrari (E=1.67). Downforce increases to 325 kg at 250 km/h, thanks in part to active aerodynamic devices which reduce drag whilst simultaneously generating downforce when required.

The Ferrari 488 GTB’s dynamic vehicle controls have also been further evolved. It sports a new version of the Side Slip Control System (SSC2) which, aside from just integrating with the car’s F1-Trac and E-Diff, now also controls the active dampers. This renders the Ferrari 488 GTB’s dynamic behaviour during complex manoeuvres even flatter and more stable, so that less expert drivers can enjoy its potential to the fullest, resulting in an astonishingly engaging driving experience.

The Ferrari 488 GTB makes its debut in a new Rosso Corsa Met livery with black and red technical fabric cabin trim.
