With race speeds expected to reach up to 370 km/h, Aerolomba Sdn Bhd, organisers of the Malaysian leg of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship 2014, have ensured that absolute and stringent safety measures will be undertaken to ensure an incident-free competition at Putrajaya on 17-18 May.
Working together with Red Bull Air Race safety officials as well as relevant local agencies such as the Fire & Rescue Department, the Royal Malaysian Police and the Ministry of Health, Aerolomba has assured that the safety of the pilots, officials and spectators will be the number one priority during the two-day international air-racing event.
Putrajaya will play host to Round 3 of the Red Bull Air Race 2014, after the first two races out of eight in the calendar were held in Abu Dhabi and Rovinj, Croatia respectively.
With this being the first time the race is held in Malaysia, the organisers sent a team to the first leg in Abu Dhabi (held from 28 Feb – 1 Mar) to accrue experience and get a closer look at all requirements and equipment deployed for the race.
In the case of emergencies, both a local qualified team of doctors as well as the Red Bull Air Race official medical team will be on hand to swiftly attend to matters.
While the draw of any motorsport event comes from being as close to the action as possible, Aerolomba has taken exhaustive measures to both inform spectators of safety protocols and ensure that safety measures during the event are adhered to.
“We will take all necessary measures to make sure that our venues have adequate notice boards, signages and information counters in place to assist and inform the public of the on-site rules and regulations. Furthermore, there will be security personnel that will provide required assistance and patrol all our event areas,” said Aerolomba's Chief Operating Officer Junaidi J. Nordin.
A total of 150 safety personnel and 250 security personnel will be deployed for the event and the entire event perimeter will be cordoned off to make the venue a closely protected zone that offers spectators both safety and comfort.
To further preserve the highest level of safety for pilots, crew and the spectators at each race, a dedicated team will use state-of-the-art technology to monitor and ensure adherence to the regulations provided by the FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale), local authorities and local aeronautic authorities.
As a world governing body, the FAI oversees world-class international competitions, as well as certifying world aviation and space records, and has given the seal of approval for all Red Bull Air Race rules and regulations for 2014.
Since the race’s inception in 2003, over 50 races have been held without incident so far.
The Red Bull Air Race World Championship features the world’s best pilots in a motor sports competition based on speed, precision and skill.
After two rounds, Austrian Hannes Arch and Great Briton Paul Bonhomme lead the Master Class pilot’s standings with 21 points each.
Putrajaya will be host to Round 3 of the race from May 17-18 and will feature Malaysian pilot Dato’ Halim Othman in the Challenger Class. Tickets can be purchased online via Ticket Pro's website.
