Volcanic Ash Cloud Surrounded Nissan Production In Japan

The Iceland’s Eyjafjallajökull volcanic ash cloud that has been spreading across northern and Central Europe has caused not only havoc to the airline travelers, but also affecting the auto industry too. We have read the report of BMW production in the US came to a halt but another car company has taken a toll to this recent development. Now Nissan is suspending production at its plants in Fukuoka and also Kanagawa as the Japanese plant use pneumatic sensors produced in Ireland and the sensors were delivered to the plant in Japan by means of air travel.

The affected models that uses this sensor was the Nissan Cube, Nissan Rogue a small sport utility vehicle and the Nissan Murano SUV which were essentially the models being imported here into Malaysia by Tan Chong Motors. Nissan stated that they doesn’t know when the plants will be able to resume production as its all depends to the situation in Europe and the company expected a production loss of 2,000 vehicles. It is rare for flight cancellations to cause a disruption like this as auto makers mostly use ships to obtain components and vehicles.

Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. said on Tuesday that they haven't had any logistical problems due to the volcano eruption.
