Bye-bye seven speed and here comes the new king, a nine speed automatic transmission. According to recent report, Mercedes is currently developing a new nine speed automatic transmission dubbed as 9G-Tronic to replace its aging 7G-Tronic transmission that were introduce in 2003.
This new transmission is design to meet its target of improved fuel efficiency and reduced the Co2 emission compared to the current transmission. It is expected to be debut on the redesigned 2012 Mercedes S-Class where Mercedes believe this transmission is suitable for large engine displacement. With upcoming introduction of this new transmission, Mercedes will once again eclipse its competitor Audi AG and BMW which beats the current Mercedes transmission with its 8 speed automatic transmission supplied by ZF.
