Peugeot has official revealed the all new Peugeot 508 ahead of its official public unveiling at Paris Auto Show this September. This new 508 with feature both sedan and station wagon body style and according to Peugeot, this car will replace the 407 and also the 607.
This new Peugeot baby has been conceived from the “5 by Peugeot” concept car shown during the Geneva motor show last March with a firm and a more subtle design language compared to the current design. This new design language will form a new corporate image of the new Peugeot cars that will be features on all future Peugeot models.
As for the interior, this new Peugeot will use hi tech features with the use of high quality materials both pleasing to look and also nice to touch. As you can see from the dashboard design, it reminds me of the new dashboard design language from the Renault model such as the Renault Fluence and also Renault Laguna which is simple yet stylish. Looking on the pictures, you will notice that Peugeot has included some sort of BMW i-Drive/ Audi MMI system with this new Peugeot 508 which is inline with the trend of other automakers.
As for the chassis, this new 508 was based from the PSA Group platform 3 that also underpins the latest Citroen’s C5 and also the current 407 that it replace. The car has a length of 4.79meters, 100mm longer than the model it replaces but 100mm shorter than the 607. The other body style, the station wagon has gain an extra 20mm compared to the sedan form.
In terms of powertrain, the new 508 will be offered a variety of diesel and petrol engine that will feature the latest fuel saving technologies such as a start and stop system. Besides the normal engine, the French Lion badge automaker also plan to introduce the HYbrid4 version most likely by mid 2011 that will feature a turbo diesel engine mounted at the front of the car and electric motor at rear axle of the car. It is rumored that the car have an output of 200hp with all wheel drive driving the wheels and only emitted 99g/km of Co2 or zero emission in all electric mode.
This new 508 will be produced in Rennes in France and the French automaker also plan to build the car in China for the ever growing hunger of car buyers in China starting from next year.
